My 60 Challenge to get in the BEST shape of my life, while being the busiest I’ve ever been, starts today. It is my hope to post daily updates on this page at the end of each day. I’ll let you know what I’ve eaten, how I’ve worked out, and everything else in between. My goal for this challenge is to develop healthy habits, and to show people that no matter HOW busy they are, health should and can be a priority.
Every athlete started as a rookie, every artist first learned to draw with finger paint, and every successful person started somewhere.
While I was preparing for this challenge, I realized that throughout my life I’ve done crazy diets & intense workouts, but never got the results I wanted, nor did I build healthy habits. So, as I was looking at diets & workout routines, I found myself wanting to go back to the workouts & eating habits that I’ve tried in my past. Well, at this point I focused on the definition of insanity: trying to do the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. I know that what didn’t work for me in the past, sure as heck isn’t going to work for me now. So, I decided to reach out to the professionals to get some help on this.
There is a great company in St. Louis called Peak Nutrition. They offer great products, and fantastic service. I had used them years ago when I wanted to prepare for running a 1/2 marathon. After I explained my challenge to them, they offered to help me reach my goals. So, yesterday I met with Corey & Brandon out at their St. Peter’s location to get my body fat checked and go over some rules & goals for the challenge.
Peak is one of the only companies in the midwest that has this CRAZY awesome machine called the ‘BodPod”. It kinda looks like a large egg. So, they instructed me to dress down and hop in. After 40 seconds the machine popped out my body fat %. This machine is one of the most accurate ways to check body fat. Check it out if you have a chance…really cool!
Well, after I got out of the machine and got redressed, Brandon gave me my results. All I can say is WOW. I realize that I haven’t focused on healthy eating or working out for nearly a year, but I didn’t realize how MUCH I had let my self go. It seems that as we get busier and busier, we just neglect our health and put it in the “I’ll do that when I have more time” category. Well, since the last time I got my body fat checked (Circa 2012) to now, my weight went up 22 pounds, and my body fat % nearly doubled.
So…..I’m sure you’re waiting on pins and needles for my results. And, while I was shocked at my results, as I said earlier: We all have to start somewhere. Here we go:
Starting Weight: 220.7 pounds
Starting Body Fat % : 30.5%
At my current levels I am near a “risky fat rating” level which means ‘too much body fat can pose serious health risks. Ask your health care professional about how to safety modify your body composition.’
It’s crazy to think that two years ago I was running multiple times a week, watching what I ate..but life get’s the best of us sometimes. Now it’s time to get back in the driver’s seat of MY life and make it the best I can! Boom!
I’ll be posting my “Challenges for the Challenge” later today. This is the list of my do’s & don’ts for the next 60 days! BOOM!
BOOM! We got this!
